" A Star is Born...."

Sim Pei Yi ....aka "SPY "......
future Astro StarQuest Champion

" Uncle , i am soooo happy !!! I got selected for the preliminary round of the Astro StarQuest competition ! "

" ....congratulations !...Wishing you the best of luck ."

" But i have to defer my next new term...and the college will not refund the full fees that i have paid. But i don't care anymore. I just wanna go and sing . College can wait ! "

WOW !!.....that's what i called " GUTS "....

I salute her for doing something very brave....she is following what her heart desires ; which a lot of people DARE not do.

Philanthropist John D. Rockefeller III once noted, "The road to happiness lies in two simple principles: find what it is that interests you and that you can do well, and when you find it, put your whole soul into it -- every bit of energy and ambition and natural ability you have."

What about you? What interests, fascinates and enthralls you?

Do you love to draw, take photographs or dream of becoming an actress , or be like Agnes Monica ? Whatever it is, know that there is a clue in these interests that point you in the direction of the life you were born to live.

If you start work at age twenty, work forty hours a week and retire at age sixty-five, you will have worked almost 100,000 hours. Wouldn't it be wonderful to spend those hours doing something you're passionate about and something that allows you to contribute your unique skill and interest to the world? If you don't begin now, when will you do it?

It's not something that needs to happen overnight. All that is required of you right now is that you make a commitment to begin the process of uncovering those interests. You don't have to know specifically what it is or even how you'll make a living at it right now. Take it one step at a time. This is a process that will unfold in stages.

Determine whether it's time for a change. How do you feel when you get up in the morning? Do you dread the day ahead of you? Are you tired, bored and exhausted? That's your inner guidance system at work. Those are all clues from your intuition that it's time for a change in your life.

Make an inner decision that it's time for a change. Ask yourself "What would I enjoy doing for TODAY ?".....

"What next steps can I take that will lead me in the right direction?" ....

"Who can I talk with that will help me with these choices?"....

"What could I do that would help others and be fun for me?"

As you go about your day, pay attention to any inner nudges or impulses that point you in a new direction.

We often put the cart before the horse. Author and speaker, Deepak Chopra noted this, saying "When we seek money, or a good relationship, or a great job, what we are really seeking is happiness. The mistake we make is not going for happiness first. If we did, everything else would follow."

So with that in mind, you may want to get pen and paper and write down your answers to the following:

What are your gifts?

  • What life achievements or accomplishments have made you feel proud?
  • What abilities do you have that people praise?
  • What tasks or skills come easily to you? Make a list of things you do well.
  • What were you good at as a child?
  • If someone were to give your eulogy, what contributions would they say you have made to the world?

What are you passionate about?

  • What do you do that makes you lose track of time?
  • If you had enough money to take a year off, what would you do with your free time?
  • Is there something you want to devote your life to?
  • How can you help others by doing what you enjoy?
  • If you could make one contribution to the world before you die, what would it be?
  • What do you want to teach others?
  • What excites or angers you most about our world?

What are your values?

  • What matters most to you? Consider the following: autonomy, humanity, creativity, kindness, power, wealth, spirituality, knowledge, leadership, community, beauty, and intellectual pursuits.
  • Think of someone you admire. What is it about their life that you appreciate? What values do you think they hold?

What is " fun " for you?

  • Make a list of twenty, fifty or one hundred things you love to do.
  • How would you spend your ideal day?
  • Do you enjoy doing things by yourself? With a partner? With a team?
  • What kind of setting do you like to be in? Are you an outdoor person or more comfortable behind a desk? Consider your surroundings when imagining your fun, ideal life.

As you look at your answers, are there any themes that emerged? Were there any "aha" moments that caught you by surprise?

Once you have identified your list of accomplishments, competencies, values and passions, PATIENTLY and PERSISTENTLY do the relevant things that will enhanced your skills and knowledge to achieve what your heart desires.

For example, if you want to be a singer like Agnes Monica , you have to go for vocal training classes, take up dancing classes, volunteer for the church choir and enter as many singing competitions as possible. And WORK HARD on your singing day and night.

Always remember what Mr. Napoleon Hill, the author of the classic, Think and Grow Rich, said : "Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success."

ps: this post is dedicated to Miss Sim Pei Yi ( SPY ) who will be competing as a singer at the Astro StarQuest 2009.

Ides of March....

March .......44 BC

The Romans are real scared of the month of march.....because that was the month Julius Caesar was murdered by his good close friend Brutus.

March ......2009 AD

My good friend SL will forever remember this month of march forever......because her boyfriend "murdered" her heart when he said " It's over ".

When Julius Caesar was murdered, the people of Rome was confused, and the event changed Rome forever. But that's another story, sorry i digressed.

But for my friend SL, i pray that she will move on, for i am very sure that she will one day find a guy who is worthy of her love.

Forget him. Move on.

Drink More Water....

I am very famous for these words " Drink lots of water yah "......

Last year, i visited a young Indonesian friend who was hospitalised to remove a stone that was lodged in her unirary tract. She was only 19 years old and she hates to drink water.

Last year, i counselled a young lady who was going for a mastectomy - removal of her left breast - because she had 3rd stage breast cancer. She was 21 and hates to drink water and hates vegetables.

Last month, my young Indonesian friend sms me from Jakarta to tell me that she cannot come back on time for kolej because she was sick from dehydration. She also hates to drink water.

Two days ago, i visited a young Indonesian friend who was hospitalised at Sunway Medical Centre. The doctor said her mouth was so dry that even her throat and lungs has contracted. She is still on drips because the doctor said she is so dehydrated. Maybe she hates to drink water too ??

The Human Body and Water

cellWater is vital to your health. Every part of your body is made up of cells.

Protoplasm, the basic material of living cells, is made of fats, carbohydrates, proteins, salts, and similar elements combined with water.

Water acts as a solvent, transporting, combining, and chemically breaking down these substances.

In a normal case, minerals and micro elements pass through the cell membrane to the nucleus by electro-osmosis.

A cell exchanges elements with the rest of the body by electrolysis.

The body needs electrolytes (salt minerals like sodium, potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate) for basic body functions.

bad cellIf your body loses water, it loses the use of these minerals.
Otto Warburg, winner of Nobel Prize, made an important discovery in 1933. He found that in the case of an abnormal or sick cell, the direction of the exchange reverses. The cell then empties and dies.

So, we need to drink water in order to keep our cells hydrated, to keep our body’s electrochemical balance to stay alive...

Women=Trouble....?

" Calvin's hypothesis of a Woman "

My 15 years old son Calvin has never been good at mathematics, and i use all kinds of methods to motivate him to study harder to improve his lousy mathematics score.

" Son, if you don't improve on your mathematics, your overall grades will not be good enough to enter university later. And if you can't enter university, you won't be able to get a degree. And if you don't have a degree, you won't get a good job. And if you don't have a good job, you won't be able to get a girlfriend. No woman will want to date a guy who doesn't have a degree. "

He answered " Dad, i am not gonna get tied down by any woman, and i am not gonna marry. Let me give you my mathematical calculation on what you said just now."

Soothing words.....

Congratulations , you have just graduated !

And you are planning to go work in Singapore ?

Maybe you should read the article below.....

2-3 years to recover ??

By Clarissa Oon, Senior Political Correspondent
. --

SINGAPORE will take two to three years to bounce back from the recession - and this is the optimistic scenario that assumes the United States recovers next year.

The pessimistic forecast? Five to six years, according to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, who spoke last night at the launch of an alumni complex at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

MM Lee, who has been saying that Singapore's recovery hinges on that of the US, believes that the American economy is 'fundamentally sound'. Its big companies such as General Motors and Chrysler are 'sound' despite their requests for further government aid.

He said he was reassured by US Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke's remarks last month that the economy would pick up by 2010, once the government's stimulus package frees up lending to households and businesses.

Also, the same reliance on exports that has put Singapore's economy in the doldrums means that once the world's major economies rebound, 'we are going to bounce back'.

MM Lee took issue with criticisms of Singapore's economic model, such as that from a recent Wall Street Journal editorial which said the Republic needed to refocus on the domestic consumption of goods that are now produced for export.

'Four million people to sustain industries supplying top-end goods to the world? That's rubbish.' Singapore has no choice but to export, he stressed.

What will further stand Singapore in good stead is its free trade agreements with countries such as the US, Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand, he added.

With such conditions in place, 'if we don't prosper, we're stupid'.

Mr Lee made these points as he shared his thoughts on what Singapore would become in 25 years time, with some 300 alumni, students and staff of NUS.

ps: we should all be like Mr. Lee Kuan Yew : THINK POSITIVE !
